A unique opportunity to train in two languages…
À chaque année, le programme de Chirurgie Générale de l’Université d’Ottawa offre un poste pour un candidat francophone lors des applications CaRMS. Ce candidat aura la chance de participer à des stages à l’Hôpital Montfort, l’hôpital francophone situé à Ottawa. Ce programme offre une occasion exceptionnelle d’être exposé à la chirurgie générale en centre communautaire en plein cœur de la ville d’Ottawa tout en pratiquant la médecine en français. Ces stages offrent une exposition chirurgicale accrue avec énormément d’autonomie, de contact direct avec plusieurs chirurgiens et beaucoup de temps en salle opératoire.
Ce résident a également la chance de faire certains stages autres que la chirurgie générale à Montfort, dont la gastroentérologie et la médecine d’urgence.
Ce candidat est membre à part entière du groupe de résidents de l’Université d’Ottawa et participe donc à toutes les activités académiques, tout comme ses collègues. La grande majorité des stages ont tout de même lieu au General et Civic Hospital. En moyenne, 1 à 3 blocs par année sont dédiés à l’Hôpital Montfort, alors que les autres blocs sont répartis de la même manière que les résidents du programme anglophone.
Les candidats intéressés peuvent soumettre une application pour le tronc bilingue et le tronc anglophone ou seulement dans le tronc bilingue. Pour ce programme nous acceptons les documents en français ou en anglais. Les candidats appliquant au programme bilingue sélectionnés pour les entrevues peuvent s’attendre à répondre à une station en français.
Each year, the General Surgery program at the University of Ottawa offers a position for a French-speaking candidate in the CaRMS applications. This candidate will have the chance to participate in rotations at Hôpital Montfort, Ottawa's francophone hospital. This program offers an exceptional opportunity to gain exposure to community-based general surgery in Ottawa, while practicing medicine in French. These rotations offer increased surgical exposure with lots of autonomy, direct contact with a variety of surgeons and plenty of time in the operating room.
This resident also has the chance to do some of the off-service rotations at Montfort, including gastroenterology and emergency medicine.
This candidate is a full member of the University of Ottawa resident group, and therefore participates in all academic activities, just like his or her colleagues. The vast majority of rotations still take place at the General and Civic Hospitals. On average, 1 to 3 blocks per year are dedicated to Hôpital Montfort, while the other blocks are distributed in the same way as residents in the English program.
Interested applicants can choose to apply only to the bilingual stream or to both the English and bilingual stream. For the bilingual program, applications can be submitted in French or in English. Candidates applying in the bilingual stream should expect one interview station to be conducted in French.
